Nicki Gurr
CHC Advisory Committee
Over the past 25 years I have been actively involved in Agility as a competitor, Instructor, Club Owner, Judge (AAC, UKI), member of the AAC Development Committee, World Team member on four teams, World Team Coach, Seminar presenter and Online instructor (www.animotionagility.ca).
In January 2024 I built some hoops, ordered a few barrels and tunnels and spent the snowy month of January applying my philosophy for steering dogs around an agility course to Hoopers lines and sequences. My motivation at that time was transitioning my eldest dog from the physical demands of Agility to softer physical demands in Hoopers.
All three of my Border Collies LOVED Hoopers instantly! And we could play it in the snow :) In 2024 I created an online Intro to Hoopers program, and began hosting intro Hoopers workshops locally and on the lower mainland of BC.
What I love most about Hoopers is the equipment is minimal and the dogs stay on the ground. This lets handlers focus on learning how to be great Navigators while they learn the key elements of the “Laws of Dog” (how dogs interpret our movement and location relative to them). I now use Hoopers foundations as my prerequisite for Agility Foundations.
In addition to teaching Hoopers classes live and online I became a judge for the CHC in 2024. I look forward to representing Western Canada on the CHC committee.
